Halloween Sauerkraut Brownies

I think you may all remember my sauerkraut fetish and how it actually helped to cure my gastritis. If you have been watching Graye Note Live, you may also have seen me “ask” my daughter, Andrea, to try my Sauerkraut Brownies. I thought it went over well. She said she couldn’t even taste the sauerkraut! What better way to have a tasty treat for Halloween than one that is actually good for you! Come on, get a little kooky spooky and “Trick or Treat” with our Halloween Sauerkraut Brownies…

Apple Impromptu Cake

It’s getting to be that cozy time of year. And, you know, I LOVE COZY! The best season of all (my FAVORITE) is here! FALL, AUTUMN, AUTUMNAL EQUINOX. However you look at it, it’s APPLE time! My most favorite apple recipe is my Mom’s, which I have tweaked. She knew how to make cozy come to life! It’s a piece of cake to make (literally). I think you will enjoy this Apple Impromptu….

Banana Ginger Smoothie

Smoothies are out there…everywhere! You can’t get away from them, so you might as well join in. However, let’s join in the “right” way! Some smoothies are infused with so much sugar, processed flavors, and absolutely NO nutrition. I prefer a smoothie that is high in protein and fiber, which can make you feel fuller, is nourishing, and has less calories. This recipe includes ginger. I LOVE ginger because of its many benefits. It can be a pain reliever, help with digestion, reduce nausea symptoms, and is an anti-inflammatory. With my recipe, I’ve made it simple for you to make this healthy, wholesome, and tasty treat…

One-Pot Wonders: Chicken and Veggies

There is a new product out there that makes your slow cooker…slow! Tara, our Wellness Contributor, hooked me up with the Instant Pot. Well, you just will not believe this thing! It can roast a five-pound chicken in 30 minutes. (Yes, you read that right!) It replaces 9 kitchen appliances and can pressure cook, slow cook, cook rice, make yogurt, cook eggs, sauté, steam, warm, and sterilize. There are actually 14 different buttons to choose from when cooking with the Instant Pot. It even makes…

Macaroni Tuna Salad

Summer is not summer until my mom makes this macaroni tuna salad! It’s nice and homeycozy (my new word for the dictionary). When I started making it myself, I got rave reviews! Of course, I “healthed” it up a bit. Here is my version…

Pasta Salad

Believe it or not, Memorial Day is around the corner! I have always loved Memorial Day; not only because my husband’s birthday falls near it, but because it is the beginning of our warmest season! My husband and our kids, Tom and Andrea, RV’d. Memorial Day weekend was the official start of our camping season. It’s great when you have nutritious food, like this pasta salad, when you’re “on the road”. I decided on this recipe after my sister-in-law, Peg, made a delicious pasta salad for a family get-together. Here is my rendition…

Mom’s Golden Buttermilk Bake a Cake

When my son was in elementary school, his teacher had the children write a recipe. I’m not sure if it was a recipe the teacher had and they just wrote it down on a recipe card, or if it was something that was made up in class. However, that recipe that he brought home on a 3 x 5 index card was everyone’s birthday cake for years! Everyone loved Tom’s Bake a Cake. I found that recipe the other day and decided to do my “tweaking”. This is what I came up with…

One-Pot Wonders: Lasagna!

One Christmas, after many years of making turkey and all the fixings, I found out from my daughter that her husband never really cared for the traditional “turkey dinner”. “Really?!,” I thought, “and NOW I find this out?! Well, I can’t let my son-in-law go through the day and not enjoy his meal!” I figured I would make him lasagna; I know he likes lasagna. I only have one oven, but I have a slow cooker. I decided to make lasagna in that! Here is my recipe…

Homemade Cream of Mushroom Soup

This article stems from when I was making my One-Pot Wonders: Holiday Leftovers! recipe, which calls for a can of cream of mushroom soup. I made my own cream of mushroom soup recipe because I wanted a healthier alternative. It was so easy and fun to make that I would like to share it with you…

The Gastritis Diet

This past September, I found out that I had acquired “a little gastritis in the stomach.” That is a direct quote from my gastroenterologist’s nurse (nope, didn’t talk to the doctor). What is it? It is an inflammation of the stomach lining. Okay, so how do we resolve making it go away? I was told to take an acid reflux medicine by him AND my general practitioner. I did this for about a month and knew it was not helping. Soooooo, if you don’t know me by now, you will! I said to my husband, “Well, that’s not happenin’!” I, also, have IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and diverticulitis, where pockets in your intestines have had food particles drop in them and get infected. To avoid another infection, I have to stay away from seeds, nuts, tomato skins, and corn. Navigating all of these different digestive issues was going to be very interesting! So onto the internet I went to research. I want to tell you, though…..it is a VERY slow-learning process! BUT, I’ve done it for you and now I can share what I’ve learned…
