This time last year I was merely writing about styling for fashion week, this year I did it! I was grateful enough to link up with the amazing skincare line, Beautifully You by Jean-Claude, Inc., and provide mobile beauty services together. They are an all-things-face mobile beauty spa, servicing Long Island and the tri-state area. Their mission is to promote skincare first by keeping things simple, all the while providing an experience that educates and builds self-esteem to those they serve. They invited me to NYFW and allowed me to put together my own team of talented stylists. My team included Alicia Rivas, Alexa Toscano, Arriana Lombardo, Cynthia Montalvo, and Carlton Jean Claude.
We arrived in NYC ready for the action. We styled approximately 20 models for Midwest Fashion Week, which was put together by Berny Martin of fashion brand, Catou. The show was sponsored by Beauty For Freedom, a nonprofit organization that engages in the industries of beauty, entertainment, and fashion as powerful allies in the fight to end human trafficking with campaigns, workshops, and events.
The beautiful Monica Watkins was our host and there were 7 separate shows we styled for….Tanya Ivory Mayes, Melissa Lockwood, Aryea Kolubah, Pawin Palitdejtakul, Catou designed by Berny Martin, Humane Envy designed by Jennifer Stecher, and the main show by Danny Nguyen Couture.
The fashion show was at Studio 450 on West 31st Street. What a beautiful venue, with floor to ceiling windows and white walls and floors that really made the models pop off the runway! There was an electric 70’s feel mixed with a modern flare.
The designers were sharing models and requested the models have a sleek wet pony look. To try the sleek wet pony trend for yourself, follow these steps:
- Comb Paul Mitchell Sculpting Lotion through your hair generously.
- Divide your hair into 3 sections: part down the center, then section ear to ear leaving front fringe out.
- Pull the middle section into a low pony at the nape of your neck and secure it with a rubber band.
- Wrap the left side fringe around the rubber band so you can no longer see it.
- Secure the left side with a bobby pin and repeat the same on the right side.
This was a great experience for my team and me! All of the designers and models were a pleasure to work for! The energy was upbeat and amazing. It was incredible to be a part of so many different movements, as all of these designers give back to different nonprofit organizations. Thank you to everyone for your hard work and support and organizing this event! Thank You, beautiful NYC…the place I am proud to call home. We’ll see you in February for Fall/Winter 17!
