I wear sunnies everyday. All day. The reason is 4-fold: 1. I have massive light-sensitivity issues. 2. They just make everything look chicer. 3. They hide not wearing makeup. 4. I’m blind as a bat and my sunnies are always prescription….which, brings me to my point: I’m going to teach you how to order prescription sunnies from the comfort of your own smartphone (or computer)! Yay!
I HATE going to the eye doctor. Actually, I hate going anywhere if the main purpose isn’t to swim, eat, or leisurely buy pretty things. So, you can see how the eye doctor doesn’t make the cut. The selection of sunnies at the eye doctor is limited, at best, and the “shopping” experience is anything but leisurely (or glamorous for that matter). So, if I don’t need an eye exam and I only need updated frames, I don’t go.
I finally overcame my fear of ordering my own prescription sunnies online, and I’m over-the-moon d-lighted with the results! FramesDirect.com outdid themselves and are my new favorite company!
Step 1: Click on this link to go to the “Prescription Sunglasses” section of their website: bit.ly/1E5m2ZM
Step 2: Use their handy-dandy “Filter” options to find the perfect sunnies for you.
Step 3: Select “Distance/Single Vision Lenses” if you are only using your glasses to help with ONE type of vision (far away OR up close). Select “Progressive Lenses” if you are using your glasses to help with MULTIPLE types of vision (far away, up close, AND everything in between).
Tip: Call FramesDirect.com at any time with questions! 1-800-248-9427
Step 4: Select your “Frame Color,” “Lens Material” (How do I know which lens material to choose ), “Lens Color,” and “Frame Size” (note the words SIZE HELP in red that you can click on to determine your size).
Tip: As you select the different options, the picture of the sunnies changes so you can see what they will look like.
Step 5: “Enter Your Prescription.” This was the trickiest part for me (as I in no way am a member of any medical or scientific community), but not to fear, we can do it. Take out your prescription and enter the below numbers.
- Look for the labels RIGHT (OD) and LEFT (OS). You may only have numbers for “Sphere.” This either means you enter NONE for “Cylinder” and “Axis,” or those numbers are missing from your prescription. It will be best to call your eye doctor’s office to confirm.
- Look for the labels PD (PUPIL DISTANCE). You either have ONE or TWO numbers. If you have two, PD1=Right and PD2=Left.
Step 6: Check out to purchase your sunnies and follow the directions FramesDirect.com gives you to email them a copy of your prescription.
BIG NOTE (DISCLAIMER): I AM IN NO WAY A TRAINED EYE GLASS SELECTOR NOR AM I A DOCTOR. I DO NOT GUARANTEE SUCCESS IN ORDERING YOUR OWN GLASSES. PLEASE CALL FRAMESDIRECT.COM WITH ANY QUESTIONS: 1-800-248-9427
That being said, with the help of a nice lady on the phone from my eye doctor’s office, as well as a nice lady on the phone from FramesDirect.com, I successfully bought a pair of STUNNING Prada sunnies online that fit me perfectly!
