“Dry Clean Only.” These words can make you shudder. There’s the issue of actually trusting a dry cleaner not to destroy your treasures and then there’s the hefty price tag associated with the risk. In addition, dry cleaning can actually wear down the fibers of your clothing and make them not last as long! Oomph. Talk about bad news.
Thankfully, there are a couple of tricks you can employ to make your clothing last longer and save your hard earned dinero for something better…like shoes!
- Layer. If you have a gorgeous sleeveless wool shift dress, layer a lightweight polyester chiffon or georgette blouse underneath and a fitted half slip on the bottom of you. The blouse and the slip can be machine washed on the gentle cycle and then hung to dry, and your wool shift dress can be worn again without even needing to clean it!
- Kit Up. Everyone should have a “kit” even if you are not a stylist. This will help you be prepared for all fashion emergencies. In the laundress department, you will want to have a couple of essential sprays. After you have worn a garment that does not need to be completely cleaned, turn it inside out, spritz it with Delicate Spray or Wool & Cashmere Spray, and let it air dry overnight.
Voilà! Clothing and money saved. Happy shoe shopping!
