Spring Cleaning

People are lunching outdoors, hem lines are creeping up, Fifth Avenue is a runway for this season’s sunglasses, and summer is right around the corner in NYC! Time to break out the peep toes and sandals and put away the boots and furs, but what does this mean for your hair? Spring cleaning is just as imperative for your locks as it is for anything else!

Get a good trim before summer! Our hair grows the most in the summer because of soaring temperatures. The heat increases blood flow to our scalp, making this the time to get our hair healthy so it stays healthy. Get any dead ends off now. Not to mention, the lob is still the trendiest cut of the season. Don’t be scared to shed some length. You’ll be cooler this season for it!

To show that spring love is in the hair, start romanticizing your tresses with a braid. I love a deconstructed headband braid. You can dress it up or dress it down, but it lets you know that spring is here!

Here is a quick tutorial:

To prep, I suggest using this Beach Wave Mousse when blow drying your hair. Be sure to spray your hair with Hairspray, and create beach wave curls with a 1 1/4 inch Curling Iron or Wand in fat sections. Finish each section of curls by spraying your hair with Dry Texture Spray.

  • Take a radial parting from ear to ear (starts at the top crown to the top of the ear on both sides of the head).
  • Clip all of the hair away in the back.
  • Section off a small amount of fringe (bangs) and clip it away.
  • Take a 1/4 inch section on right side, next to the ear, and part it into three subsections.
  • Braid these three subsections (right under center and left under center).
  • Take a 1/4 inch section from the scalp and feed it to the braid.
  • Continue with right under center.
  • Take a 1/4 inch section from the scalp and feed it to the braid.
  • Continue with left under center.
  • Repeat feeding and braiding until you reach the left ear. Tie your braid off with a rubber band.
  • Take your fringe out of the clip and pin some pieces over the rubber band.
  • Leave all of the other pieces out to romanticize the look.

If you combine all of these pointers, you’ll be the spring chicken everyone is talking about this season! Spring is in the HAIR!
