I like makeup because it makes me feel “put-together.” I also think it’s fun, but I’m definitely not an expert. Everything about fashion is so innate to me that I literally think I could spot a Chanel jacket from the womb, but when I watch the amazingly talented teenagers on YouTube that are more impressive than top celebrity makeup artists, I very quickly realize I essentially know nothing about makeup. But there is good news: Graye Note now has our own resident teenager to teach us the beauty ropes! She is my beautiful and sweet niece, Alexia, and she’s identified the best primer, concealer, and foundation for us at BOTH drugstore and luxury price points!
These are Alexia’s tips in her words!!!
Drugstore: The Wet n Wild Photo Focus Face Primer is not a translucent cream. It is white, and it did blend out very nicely. It felt like I didn’t even have primer on. It’s a great product for a great price ($4.99) and it did fill my lines, brighten my complexion, and even my skin tone.
Luxury: Smashbox Photo Finish Primerizer says that it gives 24 hour hydration. What I found was that it took one to three squirts, and it’s not a cream, it is a liquid. My skin felt very moisturized and I didn’t have to worry about breakouts. It was lightweight and did not feel heavy. It set in seconds and it was very comfortable.
Drugstore: The L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Glow Concealer blends very smoothly, but you must blend it as soon as it’s on your skin, because it dries quickly. It does conceal all redness and it feels light.
Luxury: I really, really, really like Tarte’s Double Duty Beauty Shape Tape Contour Concealer. It smells good and blends out amazingly and it gives full coverage. Also what I like about it, is you don’t need to use as much product to get a great finish, which allows you to keep the product longer.
Drugstore: The Milani 2-in-1 Foundation gives awesome coverage. It’s creamy, lightweight, and you don’t even feel like you’re wearing foundation. I LOVE this foundation; this is a must-have!
Luxury: The Diorskin Forever Perfect Foundation has sunscreen. It is very blendable and has medium to full coverage. The one thing people should know about this product is that you should order a shade a little bit above your normal shade because they do run very light. I’m not sure if that’s the case for everyone who tried this product, but for me that’s what I found.
Yaaayyy! Can you tell how excited (and proud!) I am of sweet Alexia?! Keep an eye out for her article in October on how to simplify the very confusing makeup trick of highlighting and contouring!
